On Saturday, my soulmate asked me to marry him.
How We Met
Zack and I found each other when we were both attending college at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. We were friends for only a week before he asked me to be his girlfriend. I had never been in a relationship before, and I am so glad that he was my first and will be my last.
We only had a semester together, before I was set to start work in Chicago and he would move to Madison. After graduation, we decided to stay together, and we started a long-distance relationship with no clear end goal. Although, the distance from Madison to Chicago clocks in at around a three-hour drive my parents didn’t allow for overnight dates so we both schlepped across state lines for one day visits as much as we could. It was a very exhausting experience, but we were willing to do just about anything to be together. After four years, I found us a home and a mortgage, and he moved to Chicago.
We’ve spent the summer designing the perfect ring. He knew that I didn’t want to look like a disheveled monster on one of the happiest nights of my life, so he gave me a few days warning of when he would pop the question. It ended being a wonderful and perfect day. I spent the day living out my princess dreams with a day of beauty and then we took a horse-drawn carriage to Chicago’s castle, the Old Water Tower where he proposed. I have been so excited about how it would happen that I have been completely ignoring my blog! One of the reasons, I wanted to start this site was to share my journey in wedding planning, and I can’t wait to connect with other brides-to-be on how they are handling this process. My fiancé is also the editor of Beauty and Bebidas, even though he has trouble distinguishing between mascara and eyeliner, so I think dress options will stay private for now.
